Are you attracting unique traffic?
Posted by: | CommentsOne of every website owners dreams is to be found on the front page of Google and many spend a lot of time and money attempting to achieve this. Often later bragging about how many hits their site is achieving. But are they attracting the visitors that will convert to sales?
To use the example of a shop owner as an analogy it could be like having hundreds of people walking through the door and not buying anything. Just looking thank you! It would be therefore reasonable to expect that those who are specific with their search terms are more likely to convert to buyers of your products or services. The key is to find those who are specific and attract them to your site using the same keywords on your pages.
One method is to use the free Google Keyword Tool to find specific keywords. Enter the keywords into the box and click on get keyword ideas. You will be also be given the opportunity to use synonyms. You are now provided with a list of keywords along with data such as search volume and advertiser competition. Ideally you would find keywords that are specific to your business with low competition but high search volume.
This tool will give you an idea as to what words to include in your copy and the title bar to help attract targeted visitors.
As a Small Business Internet Consultant we provide these services using tools that will provide further data.
Will your website visitors read on?
Posted by: | CommentsPicture yourself arriving in a town you’ve not visited before. You’re looking for a café.
From the street, all of them seem to be well presented, have catchy names, interesting colour schemes, clean windows, signs sitting square – which one will you choose?
You choose one at random: walk inside. Does it match your first impression? What if the layout of the tables makes it difficult to see where you need to go? Or if the signage is unclear or showing contradictory information? Or if the walls could do with a coat of paint? Or if the staff seem intent on ignoring you?
Do you stay? Probably not.
Your web site could suffer the same outcome.
Yes, you’ve chosen your domain name well; your design, graphics, colours, videos are enticing; you’ve survived that critical five seconds when visitors decide if they will stop and take a further look.
But what will they see?
Do your web pages tell a story that’s easy for the reader to follow? Is your signage clear and able to be followed easily? Are there spelling, grammar or punctuation mistakes or inconsistencies?
Any one of these can do the same for your web visitors as the ‘messy’ café does for the hungry visitor.
